Working Out Week 16 of 2014

This week I continued with my workout schedule of the Cathe Friedrich April rotation of workouts.  I have continued to challenge myself to do the entire workout dvd instead of a shorter premix this past week.  I did pretty good at the beginning of the week but toward the end of the week I did have to do a couple of the shorter premixes due to time constraints in my schedule.  I got up early every day so I could do the whole dvd but there were a couple of days that my kids had to be to school earlier than normal so I had to shorten the workout time a little.

The schedule for the past week was as follows:

  • Monday – Cardio Leg Blast – Xtrain series – 56 minutes
  • Tuesday – Pyramid Upper Body  Total Body Trisets – Upper Body – 55 minutes
  • Wednesday – Bootcamp (original dvd) – 60 minutes
  • Thursday – Tabatacise (minimum 35 min) – premix 3 tabatas + core – 42 minutes
  • Friday – MMA Boxing  Rockout Knockout premix 1 – 38 minutes
  • Saturday – Lower Body Blast  Yoga Relax premix 1- 28 minutes

The above workouts that are crossed out are the ones on the actual rotation but I don’t own those so I subbed in ones I have that were similar.

cardio leg blast Kimberlees Korner

As you can see from above my cat loves the step – he didn’t seem to want to move off of it very much until I started doing some serious jumping on it – which there is a lot of is this cardio blast workout.  This workout – Cardio Leg Blast  – is a lot of fun and the time flies by.  I did manage to complete the entire 56 minutes without collapsing!

Cathe Total Body Trisets Upper Body workout Kimberlees Korner

I don’t have Pyramid Upper Body on dvd – only VHS and I don’t have that hooked up anymore so I subbed in another workout from the Low Impact Series – Total Body Trisets – Upper Body.  The workout consists of a rotation of 3 different exercises for 3 different muscle groups like back, bis and core that you do 2 sets of.  I like this workout because it is effective and it uses the exercise ball with weights which I really like a lot.  One of my favorite core exercises is the ball exchange as seen in the lower right photo.

Rockout Knockout Workout Kimberlees Korner

Rockout Knockout is a new Cathe workout that I just got back in October of 2013.  I don’t own the MMA boxing so I subbed in this one.  I really like this one but by the end of the week I was tired and just couldn’t bring myself to complete the entire dvd which is 55 minutes long so I did premix 1 which is 38 minutes and is the cardio kickbox and the cardio kickboxing with weighted gloves for the second half.  As you can see I had a little workout buddy again that didn’t want to move so I had to workout around him.  You would think with all the kicking and punching I was doing he would get nervous and move but not him…He did decide to get up toward the end when I had to do pendulum kicks (side to side).  I guess he thought I might get him then with my foot.  I really like this workout and how it gets your heart pumping and you sweat a lot.  It is a lot of fun with the various kick and punch combos.

New Nike trainers Kimberlees KornerI broke in a new pair of shoes this week.  I actually got them a couple of weeks ago but hadn’t wore them yet.   They are Nike trainers.  They are the same style as my other Nike trainers but a different color.  It is amazing how after wearing these I realize how much my others have wore down (the inside cushioning, support) after only about 8 months.  I don’t want to give up my old ones yet though as I like the color combo and they are so comfortable.  I will probably alternate wearing them along with the Sketchers Go Fit shoes I got a couple of months ago and these new trainers.  I am getting to have quite the fitness shoe collection it seems.  I try and get them on sale though and for these new Nikes I had a $10.00 off coupon.

Well, next week will be week 4 of the April rotation of Cathe Friedrich workouts for me.  I may have to take a day or two off or sub in a couple lower impact workouts after Wednesday because I am having a root canal that day – not looking forward to that…  What are your workout plans for next week?  Click on Leave a Reply and let me know – I’d love to hear about them.

Working Out Week 12 of 2014

I am back into the workout routine at home once again.  This is end of the 11th week of P90X3.  I can not believe there are only 2 weeks left in the program.  It seems like it has gone by pretty fast, in my opinion.  I guess having the variety in the workouts has kept it interesting and makes you want to keep up with the schedule.

This week the schedule was the same as week number 9.  To see that schedule you can look at my previous post on that week.  Below are a few photos from a couple of the workouts this week.

P90X3 Eccentric Lower Wk 11 Kimberlees Korner

P90X3 Wk 11 Triometrics Kimberlees Korner

Do you see my black cat in some of the photos?  He worked out with me almost every day this past week.  I think he really missed our morning workout sessions when I was gone last week.  He seemed pretty happy to be hanging out with me again every morning.  It is interesting how our pets get into a routine.  My other cat was pretty close by too for most of the workouts but she is camera shy and tends to stay toward the side of the room by the wall – or maybe she is smart and just doesn’t want to get stepped on.

I also incorporated some of my Exhale Core Fusion workouts a few of the days this week using the Body Sculpt dvd.  I did the Upper Sculpt, Stretch Sculpt and Ab Sculpt this week.  I really like how these dvd’s are divided into those short 10 minute segments and it is easy to fit one in after I finish my 30 minutes of P90X3.

ECF Upper Sculpt Kimberlees Korner

ECF Body Sculpt Ab Sculpt Kimberlees Korner

The black cat is once again working out with me – right next to my side in the above photo.  He is kind of hard to see as he blends in with my navy shirt.

I also went to the library the beginning of this week and found a new PIlates book that I had not seen before.  It is called Pilates Practice Companion by Alycea Ungaro.  I really like the book and how it is formatted into beginner, intermediate and advanced workouts.  I used the book a few times this week and plan to use it more in the next couple of weeks.  I really like how the Pilates lengthens and strengthens my core, waist, hips and legs.

I have also gotten back into eating better this week since we are at home and I am still trying to incorporate lots of protein and fiber into my diet.  I found a really good oat bran muffin recipe from another blog and have made it twice this week.  It is from the Pink Recipe Box and the recipe is for Healthy Chocolate Chip Oat Bran Muffins.  I did not have the exact ingredients so in place of the applesauce I used a 1/2 cup of almond milk and the first time I made them I added a little extra brown sugar as I didn’t think 1/4 cup was going to be enough since I didn’t use the applesauce.  The second time I made them I did reduce the brown sugar to 1/4 cup and I thought they were just as good.  I really like how this recipe is low sugar and high in fiber.  The oat bran I used was NOW brand the first time and Bob’s Red Mill the second time.

My family also liked the muffins and so did my friend Karen.  I met her yesterday at Starbucks for our coffee and knitting get together that we have been trying to do a couple of times a month and she really liked the muffin and wanted the recipe.

I hope everyone had a great week and got in some workouts.  Have a great weekend!

Working Out Week 7 of 2014

I have now completed the 6th week of the 13 weeks of P90X3.   This week was the same schedule as last week.  I think from this 3 week rotation of workouts my favorites are Triometrics and MMX.  I still really like CVX as well but since that was a favorite in the first 3 weeks I wanted to pick a couple of new ones for the new round of workouts.

Triometrics is a leg burner for sure.  I mentioned on my facebook page the other day that it should be called Killer Legs.  This workout is definitely transforming my legs, hips and glutes.

Week 6 Triometrics Kimberlees Korner

MMX is the kickboxing – mixed martial arts workout that is a lot of fun.  Time flies when you are doing this one – it hardly even seems like 30 minutes.  This workout is a total body routine.  I am looking forward to doing it again in the coming week – week 7.

P90X3 week 6 MMX Kimberlees Korner

I have been trying to maintain eating a clean diet while doing this workout.  Actually I try and eat clean most of the time.  I did splurge a little this week with it being Valentines Day yesterday and I made some homemade chocolate peanut clusters for my family.  I ate 2 of them.   I feel like it is okay to have a treat a couple of times a week as long as it is in moderation and you limit how much you have.   I don’t think it is a good idea to deprive yourself of everything especially if you have been working really hard.

I have also been trying to take in more fiber.  I have been eating Bob’s Red Mill 7 grain hot cereal in the mornings.  That cereal is pretty good with a little honey and almond milk stirred into it.  I have also stirred in some honey and peanut butter with a little milk.  It is very satisfying and keeps you full for quite a while.   It has 6 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein per serving.  6 grams of fiber is 23% of your daily fiber.

My motivation quote this week was:

All About Attitude Kimberlees Korner

This week I also got Tony Horton’s new book that was just released last week.  It is called The Big Picture – 11 Laws That Will Change Your Life.
I have not started reading it yet as I am currently reading three other books and I want to finish one of those first.  I have skimmed through it and it looks like an excellent book and I can’t wait to start it.  I am hoping to finish a book this weekend so I can start reading Tony’s book.   I will update more on the book in my weekly fitness post as I start reading it.

So, how are your workouts going?  I would love to hear about them – just click on Leave a Reply and let me know.

Have a great weekend!

Working Out Week 2 of 2014

This week was the start of my new workout challenge with my facebook challenge group for P90X3.  This a 90 day challenge using the P90X3 program from Beachbody.

I chose to do the Lean schedule for the program.  There are 4 different programs to choose from using the various 16 dvd’s that come in the set.  The programs are:  Classic, Lean, Mass, or Doubles.  Most of the people in my group are doing the Classic or the Lean schedule.

For the Lean schedule the workouts you will use for the first three weeks are:

  • Day 1 – Accelerator
  • Day 2 – The Warrior
  • Day 3 – X3 Yoga
  • Day 4 – CVX
  • Day 5 – Isometrix
  • Day 6 – Agility X
  • Day 7 – Rest or Dynamix

All of the workouts are 30 minutes long.  A very reasonable time that is easy to fit into your schedule.  The workouts are not easy, by any means.  I am glad they are challenging – that is why I like to do a variety and try new workouts – to give me more challenges.

I think that out of this weeks workouts I have two favorites – CVX and Isometrix.  CVX is a cardio workout done with a dumbbell – I used 5 pounds.  Isometrix is a yoga type of workout done in bare feet where you hold each pose for 45 seconds.  That may sound easy but trust me it is very challenging.  Especially one of the poses on one leg with your eyes closed.  Try that for 45 seconds – you are sure to wobble.  There is also a one hand downdog called “bound downward dog” I believe and it is hard – my hand sweats and that causes me to slip on the mat.

P90X3 Day 5 Isometrix

Below are some of the other photos from the workouts.  I didn’t take any from the CVX day as it was faster paced and I wanted to learn the moves.

P90X day 1 Accelerator www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

Accelerator is a fun cardio workout that had me sweating a lot.  The donkey kick thing at the end was pretty hard.

day 2 P90X3 Warrior www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

Warrior was the workout for day 2 and another good heart pumping cardio workout.

Day 6 Agility X P90X3 workout www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

Day 6 was Agility X and probably my least favorite.  This is a pure cardio workout that has you sweating a lot.  You have to have tape on the floor to mark where you jump, step, etc.   My cat really liked the tape on the floor.  He was either scratching at it or sitting in between the two pieces of it as seen in the one photo where I am doing the cooldown at the end.  This workout will be a challenge for me to learn the moves and get better at it.

I am thinking I am going to take the rest day tomorrow instead of doing the optional Dynamix.  I have already done the Dynamix workout about a week or two ago and I know I like it but Sunday is usually a rest day for me.

This information is my own opinion.  I am not affiliated with this program I am just sharing my weekly workout and my experience with it.

Have a great weekend!

Happy New Year!  It is now the end of the first week of 2014.  My workouts this past week were a combination of my new P90X3 dvd’s and my Cathe Friedrich dvd’s.  Workout’s this week were as follows:

This is my 3rd week of alternating the cardio and the yoga or pilates and I really like this routine.  Starting next week I will be doing the P90X3 for the next 90 days.  I am starting the workout plan with my workout group on facebook.  The past couple of weeks since receiving the workouts I have just been trying a few of them out.  I didn’t want to start all of them yet since I will be using them for the next 3 months.

Below are some photos of the P90X3 workouts I did this past week.

P90X3 Isometrix workout www.kimberleesdkorner.com/blog

The Isometrix workout looks easy when you just watch it but it is a challenge.  You have to hold each pose for 45 seconds.  That may sound easy until you try it.  It was very different from any workout I have done or the type of yoga I normally do.  I really liked it.  As you can see from the photos my cat liked it too.  He is my little workout buddy every day.

P90X3 Dynamix workout www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

The Dynamix workout was another great dvd in the P90X3 series.  There were some exercises that were very different to me and some that I have done before, too.  This was another excellent workout, in my opinion, that I will really enjoy doing in my P90X3 rotation.  I told my husband he should do it to help him improve his flexibility for his golf game – not sure if he is going to try it or not though.

I have also decided to do a green smoothie challenge the month of January with my friend Joanna’s green smoothie group on facebook.  Here is the link if you are interested in joining:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/117834925060273/     The challenge is to have one green smoothie a day for the month.  I started doing this on the 31st of December and so far I have had one per day. This is a really great way to get back into a healthier diet for the new year.  There are recipes on the page and I have tried a couple of them as well as my own.

Green Smoothie www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

The smoothie I made in the photo above was my own concoction.  I am calling it Green Citrus Smoothie since it has a citrus flavor.    Here is what was in it:

  • half a grapefruit, peeled & seeded
  • juice of one lemon
  • half a banana
  • 2 dates soaked in 1/4 c. of water for 10 minutes (also add water to smoothie)
  • 2 pineapple ice cubes – made from pineapple juice
  • 1/4 c. plain greek yogurt
  • handful of spinach
  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. crushed ice
  • 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

Blend all the ingredients until smooth in a high speed blender.

This smoothie was pretty good but next time I think I will leave out the banana.  I was trying to add them in my smoothies this week thinking I would like them but I just do not care for bananas.  I will have to stick with other ingredients I like.

I am looking forward to the start of next week and my next fitness challenge of P90X3. Changing my workout routine and program is always a great way to keep me motivated and on track with my fitness goals.   What workouts are you planning to do this year?  Let me know by clicking on Leave a Reply.  I would love to hear about them. photo dbaf2cd4-dd2b-49d6-8838-f9aff3fe3cbb_zpsca4b926e.jpg

Workouts Week 52 of 2013

This is the final full week of 2013.  My workouts this year have been a variety of different activities and dvd’s.  I think that is what keeps me motivated to wake up and workout every day, well – at least five days a week.  Variety is the key.  I also think finding an awesome and friendly facebook fitness group has helped.  I really enjoy my little group on there.  Sometimes I just log onto facebook to see my group and their posts and skip my personal page of posts.  There are some really positive and dedicated fitness people in our Team Krazy Fit.

This past week I worked out most every day except Christmas day and on Sunday.  I usually take Sunday as a rest day.  My schedule this past week was:

  • Monday 12-23 – P90X3 Pilates – 30 minutes
  • Tuesday 12-24 – Cathe Party Rockin Step #2, premix 1 – 33 minutes
  • Wednesday 12-25 – off, rest day
  • Thursday 12-26 – Cathe X10, Cardio Blast – 25 minutes, also walked 1.5 miles
  • Friday 12-27 – P90X3 Yoga – 30 minutes
  • Saturday 12-28 – Exhale Core Fusion, Energy Flow Yoga – Energy Flow & Chi Gong + Hip Opener Stretches – 20 minutesWorkouts week 52 of 2013 www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

Last week I got my new P90X3 in the mail.  I had to try out a couple of the dvd’s this week.  They were awesome – to put it in one word.  The Pilates was a challenging 30 minute workout that worked muscles in my glutes I didn’t know existed.  My back side was sore for two days afterwards.  I love that dvd!  The yoga dvd was really great too.  Not the same as I am used to with my Shiva Rea dvd’s but it was nice to do a different type of yoga workout.

P90X3 Pilates Workout www.kimberleeskorner.com/blog

This past week I also did my Cathe dvd’s mixed in with the P90X3.  I can’t wait for my fitness challenge group to start on January 6, 2014 for the P90X3.  Right now I am just trying out a few of the workouts, there are 16 of them, before the challenge group starts.

I hope everyone has had a great week and a wonderful Christmas!  I am ready to get back into the normal routine of things but that will probably have to wait at least another week until my kids go back to school in 2014.

Have a great weekend and a Happy New Year! photo dbaf2cd4-dd2b-49d6-8838-f9aff3fe3cbb_zpsca4b926e.jpg

Fitness Friday Week 48 of 2013

This is my weekly fitness update.  I am planning to do a weekly post on my workouts, workout tips, smoothie recipes, etc once a week.  It will either be called Workout Wednesday or Fitness Friday.  This week Wednesday was very busy so I am doing the Friday version.

Since this week was a holiday week and my 3 sons were off school from Wednesday on through the weekend I decided to give myself a slightly lighter workout schedule.  I always plan my workouts on Sundays and they are scheduled from Monday to Saturday.  This week I decided to do my Exhale Core Fusion dvd’s alternating with my Shiva Rea yoga dvd’s.  Below are the workouts I used:

Workouts for week 48 of 2013 from Kimberlees Korner

I really like the Exhale Core Fusion series and how they are formatted on the dvd.  Each dvd is approximately 50 minutes long but they are divided into 10 minute segments.  I usually choose to do 30 or 40 minutes depending on how early I got up and how much time I have before getting the boys off to school.  Some of the dvd’s also have a 5 to 10 minute bonus segment at the end.  I love the results I get from these workouts and I say I chose a lighter schedule but these workouts are not as easy as they look.  They really tone up your whole core and the leg workouts they have in them are amazing.  The exercises look easy and simple but yield big results.

The Shiva Rea dvd’s are divided into different length of segments.  A lot of hers that I own are about 20 minutes long per segment as the case with the AM Energy.  The Creative Core series is a little different set up and I just did the whole dvd which is about 25 minutes long, I believe.  I love yoga and her yoga workouts are some of my favorites.

So, this weeks schedule was as follows:

  • Monday – ECF – Body Sculpt – 30 minutes
  • Tuesday – Shiva Rea Creative Core + Lower Body – 25 minutes
  • Wednesday – ECF – Pure Intensity – 40 minutes
  • Thursday – Shiva Rea – AM Energy – 20 minutes
  • Friday – ECF – Power Sculpt – 35 minutes
  • Saturday – Shiva Rea –  AM Energy – 20 minutes
  • Sunday – off-rest day

Below are some of the photos from the workouts:

As you can see from the photos my faithful workout partner was present – my cat.  In the one photo you can see him even watching the yoga dvd.  He is a funny cat.  He usually sits in the middle of the room waiting for me to do my workouts every day.  I also had to use my fitness grip socks this week that my husband bought me last year for Christmas as it was kind of chilly most mornings.  Thankful I had those and didn’t have to be barefoot or I would have had some cold toes!

I didn’t have time to blend up any new smoothies this week.  I continue to drink my green goddess smoothie at least 2 to 3 times per week.  I was having one almost every day but now that the weather is colder I am not really in a smoothie mood like I was in the warmer months.

I am planning to schedule some cardio and strength training workouts for next week.  I like to alternate my schedule so I don’t get bored.  What workouts are you planning for next week?  Let me know by clicking on Leave A Reply.

Have a great day! photo dbaf2cd4-dd2b-49d6-8838-f9aff3fe3cbb_zpsca4b926e.jpg
