Knitted Cat Pillow

This knitted cat pillow is a project I recently finished.  The pattern is from Knit Picks and is available on their site here:  Mini Kitty Pouf Pillow,  The pillow – pouf pattern can be purchased alone as a download or in a kit with the yarn needed to make the actual pillow.

knitted cat pillow made by Kimberlees Korner

I had a lot of fun knitting this little cat pillow.  It is knit using large needles – size US 15 so it knits up very fast.  I think it only took me a few days to complete it and this was just knitting an hour or so here and there each day.

The yarn recommended for this knitted cat pillow is from Knit Picks called Big Cozy. Click here: The Big Cozy Yarn  to view the yarn.

I just used some yarn I had in my stash since I am trying to use things up lately and not buy more.  I used some chunky baby yarn for the cream part and for the gray I used some Alpaca Grande yarn.  I think any super bulky or chunky yarn that recommends a size US 15 or even a 13 needle would work for this pattern, in my opinion.

You will also need some fiber fill to stuff the pillow and a small amount of black chunky yarn to embroider the face of the cat.  The pillow is knit in the round with circular needles so there is only a minimal amount of sewing, or seaming, to do to create this cat pillow.

Our cat is not too impressed with the new cat pillow I created.  My kids think it scares him but I took this photo of him with my phone to prove to them that he will sit by it.  The pillow is not really for him it is just a decorative accent.  It could also be knitted as a gift for a small child.

For now my knitted cat pillow hangs out in front of our fireplace near my yoga meditation cushion.  The meditation cushion is a crochet pattern I designed myself and is available in my etsy shop or on ravelry.

I plan to make another one of these fun knitted cat pillows after I finished a couple of other projects I am currently working on.  What are you currently knitting or crocheting?

Chenille Knit Blanket

I finally finished the chenille knit blanket that I started back before Christmas.  I now know why I don’t knit that many blankets or afghans – they take a lot of time to complete and after a while I get bored with the same project and the same yarn.  That is probably why I had to quit working on this blanket for a while and do a few other projects in between.  Well, anyhow, it is done, actually it has been finished for a few weeks and my husband (and cat) have been enjoying it.

Easy to Knit Chenille blanket from Kimberlees Korner

This blanket is super easy to knit.  I had this chenille yarn, from Lion brand yarn, for quite a while in my stash and decided it would be a nice warm blanket for our living room.  The needle size I used for this yarn was a size US 11 circular with a very long 47 inch cable.  The pattern for this blanket is a 4 row repeat and is below:

Cast on 72 stitches (multiple of 4)

Row 1:  (Right Side) *K2, p2; repeat from * across

Row 2:  *K2, p2; repeat from * across

Row 3:  P2, k2; repeat from * across

Row 4:  P2, k2; repeat from * across

Repeat the above 4 rows a total of 104 times or until desired length.

My finished blanket was approximately 42 inches wide and 65 inches long.  A nice size for a couch afghan.  I could have probably made it longer as I had another skein of yarn but the chenille yarn was getting super heavy to work with.

Chenille Afghan Free Knit Pattern from Kimberlees Korner

This stitch pattern is reversible, meaning it looks the same on both sides, which I think is nice for a blanket.  I also knit a swatch with the pattern in acrylic #4 weight yarn holding 2 yarns together and thought that would also make a nice heavy blanket.  Knit swatch holding 2 yarns together Kimberlees Korner

The above swatch is knit with 2 skeins of Hobby Lobby I Love this Yarn held together and using the 4 row pattern above and size US 11 needles.  This swatch ended up being a little smaller in size than my chenille swatch.  It was 4 inches wide by 4 inches long on 12 stitches over 16 rows in pattern.  The chenille swatch was 6 inches wide by 5 inches long on 12 stitches over 20 rows in pattern.  So, if you were to knit the pattern in 2 yarns of acrylic yarn you would probably want to increase your stitch count to at least 112 stitches so that the blanket will be wide enough.   Just remember your stitch count needs to be a multiple of 4 whatever you increase it to.

Chenille Blanket and Vibrant V Stitch Pillow from Kimberlees Korner

Overall I am pleased with our new blanket.  I also like the fact that it looks nice with the Vibrant V Stitch pillow I crocheted back in the fall.  Of course photos are not complete without my black cat getting in the background.

I have also been knitting some dishcloths, which are good and easy spring projects and some sweaters.  What have you been working on lately?  Let me know by leaving a comment.

Have a great day!

Red Stripes Knit Sweater

My most recently finished knitting project is a sweater that I designed using various red yarns and a white yarn.  The idea for the sweater began from the knitting stitch a friend of mine was using to knit a baby blanket.  I had some various red yarns, a skein of this and that, all in medium weights, and I wanted to combine them and use them up.  I decided it would be best to alternate them with some white yarn since some of the yarns were a dark red and other were a true red, or a red with sparkles in the yarn.  Front and back views of red stripes sweater knit by Kimberlee from Kimberlees Korner

I am really happy with the way the sweater turned out and the fit.  I am also happy that I got it done in time to wear for Valentine’s day.  My husband commented that I would be ready for Christmas, too – especially if I added a green accent to it –  so I guess it can be worn for a couple of holidays.

Yarns used to knit red stripes sweater from Kimberlees Korner

As I mentioned before the yarns I used were various medium weight yarns.  Three of the yarns were the Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn – which is a great yarn for sweaters, in my opinion.  It knits well and there are tons of colors.  The other two yarns were Red Heart that I had left over from other projects.  The one was Red Heart Sparkle, which I only used for a couple of stripes in the body of the sweater.  I ran low with this one and I didn’t think I had enough for the sleeves so I left that one out of the sleeves.  The other yarn was Red Heart Soft in a wine color.

Above is a larger, close up view, of the sweater so you can see the stitch.  It is mainly stockinette with a ridge in between each color change.  The sweater has garter rows for the sleeve edges and the lower band and at the top neckline and shoulder area.

The sleeves I designed to be a 3/4 sleeve.  I decided that would be best since sometimes in February we have slightly warmer days and if it does happen to be cooler I can wear a shirt underneath, as in the photos.  I kind of like a 3/4 sleeve on sweaters that way they don’t get wet when you wash or hands or do dishes.

Overall I am pleased with my new sweater and look forward to knitting another one – maybe in shades of blue with a light gray in place of the white.  I am thinking that combination would look good with jeans.  Eventually I will have the pattern for the sweater available in my etsy, craftsy and ravelry shops.

Lace Tee Knitting Project

The lace tonal tee that I was working on for a KAL with the Artyarns group on Ravelry is complete.  I actually have had it done for a few weeks but had to block it – which I did last week and I wore it to church this past Sunday.  Also, it has been too hot here to wear it until this past weekend when it really cooled down here in Texas.

Front and Back of Lace Tonal Tee

I am really proud of knitting this lace tee – sweater.  I believe this is one of the most intricate lace projects I have ever done.  The whole sweater is knit on circular knitting needles and knit in the round so there is no seaming .  The project was part of a KAL – knit along – in a group on Ravelry for Aryarns.  I think the only way to get the pattern right now is to do the KAL.    The link to the KAL is:   http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lace-tonal-tee-knitalong

Lace Tee knit with Regal Silk yarn from Artyarns

The above photo gives you a close up view of the lace pattern.  The pattern is suppose to have more of a sleeve with the diamond border but I ran out of yarn and hated to have to order one more skein just for a few more rows.  So, I just finished the sleeve with a round of knit and then the bind off for a small cap sleeve.  I think it turned out fine.

The Regal Silk yarn from Artyarns that this is made with is a lovely yarn to knit with.  The project is actually suppose to be knit with various skeins in a tonal color scheme but I already had this color in Parrot so I decide to just use it.  Also, less weaving in of ends after the project is done since I didn’t do all of the color changes.

I plan to knit another one of these in the future.  I think I will make it a little shorter though and not do an extra round of the middle diamonds as called for in the pattern.  This is more of a tunic length for me.  Also, I learned that the 100 percent silk yarn is very stretchy.  Since this was my first time using this yarn or making this type of sweater I didn’t realize it was going to “grow” as you put it on.  That’s okay though.  I like how it looked with my tiered skirt that I made a few months ago and I think it will also look great with some leggings in one of the colors.

I hope everyone is having a good week.  I am currently working on some new crochet and knitting pattern designs.  Fall is in the air here in Texas and scarf, shawl and sweater season is soon to be here.

Take care,

Kimberlee

Knitting Pattern For Lace Scarf

A couple of months ago I came across this Paton’s Glam Stripes yarn at Michaels on clearance and I purchased quite a few of the colors.  I figured I would be able to design some pretty new accessory patterns with it.Glam Stripe yarn

I am sharing a couple of the projects I made with the yarn and a free diagonal lace scarf knitting pattern.  If you click on the red highlighted text it will take you to the pdf pattern that I designed.  Below is a photo of the scarf pattern.

knit scarf with paton's glam stripe yarn

This scarf is a great lightweight accessory.  The pattern is fairly simple – a 2 row repeat and features bias (diagonal) ends.

Bias End of Lace Scarf

This scarf is super quick and easy to knit, too.  It is knit on size US 8 knitting needles.  You can use other yarns, not just the Paton’s Glam Stripes, but I like how it turned out with the coral Glam yarn and the glitter parts on the bias.

I also knitted a shrug in the navy blue Glam Stripes yarn.  The shrug pattern is available in my etsy shop.  It features an openwork knitting stitch and is also pretty simple to knit.

Glam Stripe Knit Shrug

I like how it turned out with the Glam yarn and I am looking forward to knitting more with this pattern and other yarns.  I love to take a pattern and experiment with different yarns or even different needle sizes and see what I can create.  Sometimes it can look totally different than the original I designed.

I am still working on my crochet project that I started a couple of months ago with the Glam Stripes yarn in black.  I seem to be knitting or sewing more lately than crocheting so it is coming along slowly.

I hope you are enjoying the beginning of August and are getting some crocheting or knitting done.  I currently have a few projects going and I will be sharing more of those in the coming weeks.

Have a great day!

May KAL – Knit Dishcloths

I participated in another KAL (Knit Along) for May with my facebook knitting group.  This month the project was for knit dishcloths.  I have knit one or two in the past and also crocheted a few but never really got into making them.  Well, that all changed this month because I have been cranking out these dishcloths regularly for the last two weeks.  Let me tell you they become addictive to make and are so much fun.  I really like the fact that they can be knitted in a day or two and you feel like you have accomplished something that is useful.

Another fun (and addictive) thing about knitting these dishcloths is going to the store to pick out the yarn.  I made all of mine with the LIly Sugar and Cream yarn.  There are so many fun colors, prints, stripes and ombres to choose from at Hobby Lobby and Michaels.   So, I now have a new stash of the cotton yarn for dishcloths.

Below are some photos of the dishcloths I recently made.  I am also including the pattern link to some of them as there are tons of free patterns all over the internet and on Ravelry for dishcloths.

Grandmother's Favorite Dishcloth knitted by Kimberlees Korner

This pattern for Grandmother’s Favorite Dishcloth is very easy and fun to knit.  It is knit on the diagonal and you increase to a certain number of stitches and then go back and decrease for the other side.  I have knit two of these so far – both only took a day to make of just knitting here and there or while watching an evening TV show.  You could also make it larger by adding more to your increases if you wanted a baby blanket or a lap throw.   My finished dishcloth was approximately 9 inches by 9 inches – a good size.  I believe I knit this one on size 8 needles.  The link to the pattern is here:  Grandmother’s Favorite Dishcloth Pattern

Waffle Knit Dishcloth made by Kimberlees Korner

The one above is the Waffle Knit Dishcloth  <click on link for the free pattern.  This is another one of my favorites and I really like the yarn I knit this one with which I think was called natural stripe.  This one I knit on a size 7 needle and with 40 stitches.  I really like the size of this one, too.

Knitted Dishcloths book Kimberlees Korner

When shopping for more cotton yarn a couple of weeks ago I came across this cute dishcloth book from Leisure Arts at Hobby Lobby.  There are 16 different dishcloths in this book and so far I have knit three of them.  I like the book but I have had to adjust my needle size down and even lower my stitch count to get the cloths to be more square.  The first two I knit were more rectangles than squares – which is okay but it said they were to be square.  I also tend to knit with a slightly loose stitch so that might be another issue.  I really like the book a lot and below are a few of the designs I knit from it:

The two in the top photo I sent to my mother-in-law as I thought the colors would go with her kitchen and she likes green.  The bottom one in the browns and tans I kept for our kitchen as my counters are kind of that color.

Stars Dishcloth made by Kimberlees Korner

I really like this little red, white and blue one and knitted it in a star stitch pattern.  It is another free pattern I found on Ravelry – Star Stitch Dishcloth.  This one is a little small – only about 7 by 7 inches but I like it.  I got it done in time to use for Memorial Day weekend so I am saving it for that.   The pattern is a 4 row repeat and very easy to do.

Almost Lost Dishcloth Pattern

Cotton Dishcloth used as a table decoration Kimberlees Korner

The pattern above was for a flower type of design called the Almost Lost Dishcloth Pattern.   You can click on the highlighted text for the pattern from the Simply Notable blog.    It was a lot of fun to knit and very simple, too.  I made this one in a day.  I decided to use it as a table decoration under my flower arrangement for now.  Maybe after Memorial Day and the 4th of July I will use it as a dishcloth.  This one was knit in the Lily patriotic print cotton yarn which I found at Michaels.

Petal Dishcloth made by Kimberless Korner

This other flower dishcloth was called the Petal Dishcloth.  It was very similar to the Almost Lost pattern but with a few extra stitches so it is a little bigger.   It is fun to use a flower shaped dishcloth versus the traditional square one.

I am enjoying knitting, and using, all my new dishcloth designs.  These dishcloths are also great for an on the go project since they are small they are easy to take with you and take out and work on if you have to wait somewhere.  They also make great gifts and I plan to knit more up and set them aside to have some available to give away.  One thing I have noticed with them though is that they work a lot better after they have been washed a couple of times.  They kind of need to be broken in and then they wipe off your counters and wring out better.

What projects are you currently working on?  I have started another project for a shawlette for an Art Yarns KAL.  I had wanted to start it sooner but the yarn I ordered for it was on back order and I just got it a couple of days ago.  I will be sharing that in June when I get it finished.

Have a great day!

Lace and Garter Infinity Knit Scarves

Lately in addition to my craft and sewing projects I have been knitting a lot.  These lace and garter infinity scarves are one of my most recent designs that I have finished.

Pink Lace and Garter knit infinity scarf from Kimberlees Korner

Infinity Scarf knit by Kimberlees Korner

I really had a lot of fun knitting these by changing the stitch pattern and the yarn from a solid color yarn to a multi color yarn.  The pink one above can also be worn over the shoulders as a little mobius wrap.  The green version is a lot longer and can be wore long or doubled for warmth.  I just love accessories that can be worn different ways.

The pattern for these is a design of my own that I will be adding to my etsy shop soon and on craftsy.  The scarves themselves will be added to my gift collection.

Another knitting project that I am currently still working on is a shawl for a KAL through a knitting group that I belong to on facebook.  KAL stands for knit along, I believe.  I have never participated in one of these before and decided that I needed something new and different to challenge me with my knitting.  When I first saw the pattern called Nymphalidea – which is available free on ravelry (if you click on the highlighted link it will take you to the pattern) I was not sure I would be able to tackle it as it looked “involved”.  But one of the other ladies in the group assured me that once you got going it was pretty simple and it is.  If you can knit, purl, knit two together and yarn over you can make this shawl.

I am still working on my Nymphalidea shawl – below is a photo of progress I made on the first day of starting it.  I am much farther along now and I will share my finished shawl in the next week or two on my blog.  Some of the ladies in the group have finished theirs and they are just beautiful.  I can’t wait to see how mine will turn out.

I have also started a new crochet project that I will be sharing a short tutorial for (if it turns out) on my blog soon.  What projects are you currently working on?  Click on Leave a Reply and let me know.

Knit Triangle Shawl

This is one of my recent knitting projects that I completed.  I knit this triangle shawl in Lion Homespun yarn so it is nice and cozy.  Homespun yarn is one of my favorites to use to create soft and warm accessories or sweaters.  It is one of my go to yarns in the winter months so I always buy it when it is on sale so I have a stash on hand for when a new idea strikes me.

Knit Shawl made by Kimberlee from Kimberlees Korner

I really like how my new design came out.  I got the idea for making this after watching some of the craftsy class Sweetheart Knit Shawls.  So far I have still only watched a few of the videos but seeing how to knit a triangle shawl gave me this idea to design my own.  I just wanted a basic knit shawl and not a lot of fancy stitches for this one.  I did do an openwork stitch at the lower edge though.Lower edging on triangle knit shawl from Kimberlees Korner

I knit this shawl on larger needles size 13 needles so it knit up pretty fast.  I am going to be making another one in a different color of Homespun with possibly a different lower edging – I haven’t decided yet.

Back of Triangle Knit Shawl from Kimberlees Korner

This shawl has gotten some good use from me so far.  I took it to Florida with me a few weeks ago and wore it there in the evening.  I also wore it to church the other day.  It is nice to take with me in the car in case I find myself in a cool environment and then I have something warm to wrap around me.  I have also just wore it around my house when I am a little chilly.

The craftsy class Sweetheart Knit Shawls so far is a great class.  I need to go back and finish watching the rest of it as I always learn some new and helpful info from all the craftsy classes I have taken.  There are three shawl designs you can make from the class but I have not attempted any of them yet.  They are all very pretty designs.  You can click on the craftsy class link to learn more about craftsy knitting classes if you are interested.  I have also purchased another lace knitting class Lace Knitting:  Basics and Beyond with Eunny Jang but have not started watching that one yet.  A friend of mine also purchased it and we thought it would be fun to take it and discuss what we have learned.

Online Knitting Class

I am currently knitting a new lace and knit mobius wrap and just finished a couple of mobius cowls.  I will be sharing those on my blog soon so be sure to subscribe via bloglovin, email or RSS to receive future blog posts.

Have a great day!
